A warm welcoming pub with a classic country feel.

We are open at last and have created an exciting new vision for East Anglia with our 18th Century West Norfolk pub, The George and Dragon, Newton by Castle Acre.

Wells Deli, in conjunction with proprietor and General Manager Tiffany Turner and Head Chef Tiago Rodrigues have brought their wealth of hospitality experience to the old drinking and dining rooms at the pub known by locals as the ‘Newton George.’ We have planned simple dishes rich in flavour, using seasonal ingredients from Norfolk and around the world.

Menus are balanced between vegan and vegetarian recipes, alongside burgers, steaks and fish prepared on a huge kitchen grill.  Our 2 and 3 course week day set lunch menu is proving popular.

“The UK’s Vegan movement is growing,” said Tiffany. “As a nation we are becoming far more adventurous about how we use vegetables. We will always serve pub classics, but we know how people love having the chance to try things like spicy Prawn Laksa from Malaysia, delicious curry and vegan seitan steak with cashew nut sauce. Fresh herbs, spices, citrus fruits and pulses with seasonal cabbage, kale and beans, create wonderful flavours and exciting dishes. The single gluten-free vegetarian option, listed at the foot of so many a menu, will become a thing of the past at the G&D!”

Breakfast is served 8 - 10am, lunch from 12 - 3pm, Supper from 6 - 9pm. Food is served on Sunday from 12 midday - 8pm. {Sunday Roasts served until we sell out}

2 courses for £14 or 3 courses for £18 are served Mon to Friday 12 - 3pm {excluding school and public holidays}

A traditional East Anglian establishment gets a signature look.

The new George & Dragon interior offers the Pickwick Club Room, a brand new stylish party room at the rear of the pub which seats up to 60 people inside and which opens onto a covered terrace, seating up to a further 150 and overlooking the countryside. “We have created a party space where we can work closely with local organisations and individuals to create tailor-made menus and party plans to suit every celebration, large or small,” said Tiffany.

The original interior, nodding to the building’s origins, is thoroughly Dickensian with low ceilings, old leather chairs, leather-bound books and carefully chosen lighting.  The front door opens into a traditional bar area where the real ales are brewed at Adnams of Southwold. Wines are supplied by London’s Lea and Sandeman specialising in small vineyards and selecting individual vintages.

Diners will be warmly welcomed by a professional front of house team into four cosy dining rooms with roaring log burners and open fires.  Tiffany said: “The all new George and Dragon is dog friendly, children welcome, gender neutral, disabled person sensitive and committed to playing its small part in a recycled and sustainable world. We greatly look forward to working alongside our village neighbours and with the new 'Pig Shed Motel' next door.”

The Pig Shed Motel will comprise 10 convenient, comfortable, ground level drive in drive out ensuite double rooms with two for disabled people. The motel will be Independent to the G&D but right next door and complimenting it.
